Dr. Ilene Winokur
Director , Foundation Program Unit (English and Math), Gulf University for Science and Technology (GUST) - Kuwait
Ilene Winokur AlZaid, Ed.D. has lived in Kuwait for over 30 years and is currently Director of the Foundation Program Unit (Math and English) at Gulf University for Science and Technology (GUST) and Managing Director of Specialized Solutions, an educational consulting firm based in Kuwait. She taught and was an administrator at the early childhood and elementary levels, in addition to teaching and administration at the college level in private institutions in Kuwait for 20 years. Her academic interests are leadership in practice, transfer of training to the classroom, blended learning and continuing professional development (CPD).
Dr. Winokur, served on the steering committee for accreditation, co-wrote and edited the content-area curriculum, and later supervised the revision of the curriculum using a “backward design” at a local private American school in Kuwait. During her tenure as elementary principal, she supervised a revision of the elementary school report card based on the level of skills students achieved. She has presented workshops at the Professional Educators of Kuwait (PEAK) conferences and local school professional development days on topics including Kuwaiti culture, the administrator as visionary leader, and how to differentiate lessons using the multiple intelligences, Bloom’s taxonomy, and learning styles. She has also mentored struggling teachers and aspiring administrators. As an administrator, she encouraged members of her staff to become teacher leaders.
Dr. Winokur holds a doctorate in Educational Leadership from Lehigh University and an MBA from the University of Miami, Florida. She also completed ESL certification from the College of New Jersey, and a BA in History from State University at Buffalo, New York. Ilene has over 20 years of experience in teaching, mentoring and administration.
