Dr. Mustapha Akinkunmi

Financial Economist, Technology Strategist and Chief External Relations Officer Kola Daisi University, Nigeria

Dr. Mustapha Abiodun Akinkunmi is a Financial Economist, Development Economist and Technology Strategist.

He has over thirty years of experience in estimating, planning and forecasting using statistical and econometrics methods, with particular expertise in risk, expected utility, discounting, binomial-tree valuation methods, financial econometrics models, monte carlo simulations, macroeconomic, and exchange rate modeling.

Dr. Akinkunmi has done extensive software development on quantitative analysis of capital markets, revenue and payment gateway, predictive analytics, data science and credit risk management.

He has a record of success in identifying and implementing change management programmes and institutional development initiatives in both public and private sector organizations.

He has been in high profile positions as a Consultant, Financial Advisor, Project Manager and Business Strategist to AT&T (Bell Labs), Salomon Brothers, Goldman Sachs, Phibro Energy, First Boston (Credit Suisse First Boston), World Bank and Central Bank of Nigeria.

He is an internationally recognized author (Introduction to Strategic Financial Management, May 2013, Data Mining and Market Intelligence: Implications for Decision Making, June 2018; Central Bank Balance Sheet and Real Business Cycle, June 2018; Business Statistics Using R, August 2019) and leader in demand analysis, specializing in working with very large databases.

Furthermore, he has taught and conducted applied research in areas that include analyses of expenditure patterns, corporate finance, financial economics, and exchange rate modeling for Manhattan College, Fordham University and American University of Nigeria, Yola, Nigeria.

In 1990, he founded Technology Solutions Incorporated (TSI) in New York, which focused on data science and software application development for clients including major financial services institutions. After ten years of successful operations and rapid growth under Dr. Akinkunmi’s leadership, TSI was acquired by a publicly traded technology company based in the United States of America in a value-creating transaction.

Dr. Akinkunmi was a former Honorable Commissioner for Finance in Lagos State, Nigeria.

He is now Chief External Relations Officer at Kola Daisi University (KDU) Ibadan, Nigeria, Director of African Development & Integration Project at Center of International Policy Studies (CIPS), Fordham University, NY, NY and Executive Vice Chairman at Funds & Electronic Transfer Solutions Limited (fets), Lagos, Nigeria.

As a result, we must interrogate how we measure and award credentials in our student population.

  • How to place greater value on the curriculum, through online and offline learning
  • Ensuring quality assurance and accreditation in online learning
  • Providing staff with professional development through e-learning platforms
